July 8, 1880
Long Run, Jefferson Co., KY

Dear Sir you must excuse me for not answering your communications before know. I have been inquiring of the oldest inhabitants of this part of the country in trying to answer your inquirys to the questions you asked in your letter.
The first question you asked. Wasn't there a family by the name of Mayfields living at or near Boston about the year 1814. I answer there was thare was three or four brothers of them. Sutherland, Isac' + Levi. All three of them was in the war of "12". I new Sutherland myself. He drew a pension until with his death. I also understand the other brothers drew a pension all so. Isack moved off + we have lost sight of him. Levi moved to Indiana not far from New Albany and there he died. I understand some of his children is know living out thare not far from New Albany.
His wife was a rooksberry by the name of Polly at that time Polly Rookbury by  really Mary.
Thare is know living in the the city of Louisville Ky a nephew of the said Mayfields by the name of Nicls mayfield all so another living about 5 miles from me by the name of Wm Rookbury know if these answers are not satisfacially any assistance can give you well be cheerfully given
if it is nessary for you to have the names of the children of the said Levi Mayfield I think I can get them from this nephew Wm Rokkbury
